South Pars Phase 13 Supplying Ethane to Onshore Refiners: Phase 13 of the giant South Pars Gas Field in the Persian Gulf started injecting ethane to onshore refineries in Pars Special Economic Energy Zone, operator of the phase said.

Payam Motamed said the injection takes place via the ethane pipeline that came on stream recently and transfers 2,750 tons of ethane on a daily basis.

Increase in ethane production over the past nine months has helped petrochemical plants raise ethylene output by 420,000 tons – reaching 7.7 million tons.

Ethane is among the highest value-added products used as feedstock in petrochemical plants. Domestic demand for ethane is 5.5 million tons and the surplus can be exported.

Phase 13 of SP is being developed to produce on a daily basis 56 million cubic meters of gas, 75,000 billion tons of gas condensates, 400 tons sulfur and 1.05 million tons a year of LPG. Sour gas from this phase is supplied to onshore refining facilities for processing via a sea pipeline.

Motamed said the fourth sweetening train of the refinery, which was operational in winter, will process the gas before injecting it into the national grid.

Iran’s gas production capacity is 800 million cubic meters a day. Supplies from South Pars account for nearly two-thirds of the total domestic gas demand. Source: Financial Tribune
